Let’s make Tampere a capital of culture and athletics by supporting different sports and new forms of culture, by enabling events and by promoting a wide variety of hobbies and activities. We need to arrange more facilities for sports aficionados as well as bands.
We should start constructing the first line of the city tram, and go ahead with planning the next ones. We need to make more pathways for cyclists and pedestrians, and we should make year-round commute by bike easier. Hämeenkatu should be a street dedicated to public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. The commuter train network around Tampere should be further developed, and bus lines should be added. I want to make the downtown area and the suburbs more enjoyable for everyone, and I support the construction of new parks to suit the needs of people of all ages.
I want to preserve the vitality of Tampere by luring more jobs to the city, and by supporting the creation of new businesses and commercial sectors. We also need to speed up zoning. We should focus on creative industries and arrange employment services so that they can be accessed effortlessly. We need to put a stop to the expansion of city debt.
The point of view of children and young people should be taken into account in all decision making processes. City services should be available close to where the residents live. I want to channel more resources into helping people deal with mental problems and issues with substance abuse. More attention needs to be paid to preventing young people from falling by the wayside. We can do that by providing them with jobs and education, and by supporting social work among families.
We need to prepare for the future by cutting our emissions. I want to preserve the forests near Tampere and the green areas in the city. We need to adhere to ethical standards in public procurement.
I want to open up more channels for the citizens to have their say in decision making. Furthermore, we need to make the decision process itself more transparent, and present the relevant information in a clear, visual format. Data produced by employees on the city payroll should be open for everyone to use. I strongly supports the adoption of open source software. The digital services of the city of Tampere should be much easier to use than they currently are.
