As long as war and terror continues, we need to acknowledge that a vast number of people need shelter from violence. Their human rights must be looked after, whatever deals we strike in our summits. Walls around our countries will not break the business of smuggling and stop desperate people from trying to enter Europe by any means necessary. The only effective way to deal with the root issue is to offer refugees a reasonable, safe and legal possibility to seek asylum in Europe.
